Carly Fiorina to Stump for Ted Cruz at Maine GOP Convention

PORTLAND, Maine - Carly Fiorina will speak at the Maine Republican Party state convention in Bangor Saturday on behalf of presidential candidate Ted Cruz.

Fiorina is the former CEO of Hewlett Packard; she was a candidate for the presidential nomination but dropped out of the race in February after a poor performance in the New Hampshire primary.

Rick Bennett is the chair of Maine's Republican Party. He says in addition to Fiorina, there's an all-star cast of speakers scheduled, including Gov. Paul LePage and former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson.

And he says this year's competitive primary contest is sparking a lot of interest, including a big increase in interest in being national delegates.

We had nearly 200 people file to be nominated," Bennett says. "I think there's a lot of interest, not only in the state convention, but in the national convention and the whole election year."

Cruz won the state's Republican primary last month. Donald Trump and John Kasich also won delegates that day. Bennett says there's still space for people who want to attend, and information is on the party's web site.
