Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, at the Capitol in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020.

Earlier this week, U.S. Sen. Angus King publicly asked major internet streaming companies such as Netflix and Amazon to provide free access to their programming over the holidays as a way to keep people at home.

But he hasn’t had any takers.

“It would be a Christmas present to people that can’t afford these services and it would provide at least a bit of incentive for them to stay safe and stay home during the holidays,” he says.

King says the idea came from a discussion in his office about the impact that the pandemic is having on families who must forgo holiday parties and meals in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

King says he’s still waiting to hear back from the streaming companies.
