AUBURN, Maine - Maine ski resorts are hailing the arrival of cold weather and the first snowstorm of the season.
Scott Shanaman, of Lost Valley ski area in Auburn, says even the sleet is welcome to make the natural snow heavier so it won't blow away. Shanaman says crews started making snow early Monday morning in preparation for opening on Wednesday.
"The phone's ringing off the hook yesterday and today, knowing, I think, that the storm is coming," he says. "And we put it out there that we're going to make every attempt to open Wednesday morning, 9 a.m."
Titcomb Mountain in Farmington is also opening Wednesday. Manager Megan Robinson says the storm will help Titcomb open more trails than anticipated.
