Police say a 17-year old male from Westbrook is facing a juvenile charge of terrorizing for allegedly making a threat over social media against students at Casco Bay High School in Portland. The alleged threat prompted the cancellation of classes Wednesday at the high school and at the Portland Arts & Technology School, which share a campus.

A Westbrook teenager is in custody and charged with terrorizing in connection with threatening messages sent to some Casco Bay High School students on social media.

PORTLAND, Maine - Maine's attorney general is filing a complaint under the Maine Civil Rights Act against a Portland man who was charged with assault in an incident police called a hate crime.

Jaime Hoffman was charged with assault and interfering with constitutional rights stemming from the January incident. He is charged with making racial slurs and assaulting students outside Casco Bay High School in Portland.

The complaint from Attorney General Janet Mills requests that the court order Hoffman to stay away from the students and stay off the school's campus.

Tonight, the Portland Board of Education will hold a hearing on resolutions that supporters say are intended to protect students from hate speech and to assure that teachers can speak freely about political issues in class.

Portland’s superintendent is pledging to protect the district’s students following an alleged hate crime targeting four students last week.

In an open letter, Portland Superintendent Xavier Botana condemned the alleged attack on four Casco Bay High School students on Friday.
