Striking FairPoint Workers Rally in New Hampshire

By Kathleen Ronayne, The Associated Press

CONCORD, N.H. - FairPoint Communications workers in New Hampshire say they'll continue to strike until company officials return to the bargaining table in good faith, regardless of the personal and financial toll the strike is taking on their families.

About 200 striking workers gathered in front of the statehouse in Concord on Friday, in an effort to draw more attention to their cause, now in its tenth week. Unions that represent more than 1,700 workers across Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire say FairPoint has rejected virtually all of their proposals. The company's chief executive officer says the unions have refused to bargain in good faith.

Some workers at the rally say the strike, which began Oct. 17, is starting to take a significant toll on their ability to pay mortgages and other bills.
