3 Firms Interested in Purchasing Closed Bucksport Mill

BUCKSPORT, Maine - Three companies are interested in purchasing and reopening a shuttered paper mill in Bucksport, Maine.

Verso Paper Corp. closed the mill last month and plans to sell it to a Canadian metal recycler.

Minimill Technologies Inc. of Syracuse, New York, Fibre Technologies of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Mumbai-based Kejriwal Singapore International say they want to buy the facility and resume production.

The facility employed more than 500 people before its closure.

U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock is urging the potential buyers and the mill to work out a deal. Woodcock is considering a union's lawsuit that seeks to block that sale and called a Tuesday morning hearing at U.S. District Court in Bangor. AIM Development LLC intends to buy the Bucksport mill and hasn't announced its plans for the facility.
