PORTLAND, Maine - FairPoint Communications is scaling back police details outside its Maine headquarters where workers have picketed since going on strike four months ago.
There were no pickets at the location Thursday.
The Falmouth Police Department was told officers were no longer needed as of Friday. The Portland Police Department, meanwhile, was told to scale back to a single officer outside the building.
A union spokeswoman said she had no information about any deal to end the strike, saying federally mediated talks were ongoing.
A company spokeswoman didn't return a call seeking comment.
Workers have been on strike since October, and the mediated talks have been ongoing since last month. The federal mediator has imposed a gag order on participants in the negotiations.
