EASTPORT, Maine — A Maine tidal power company with a first-of-its-kind demonstration project in Down East Maine is expanding its presence over the border, with the launch of a new subsidiary in Montreal.
John Ferland, vice president for project development at Ocean Renewable Power Co., says the company is quickly expanding to meet the renewable power needs of the future — and this is just the beginning.
"We're very hopeful that we'll have more positive stories to tell as a result of our company's growth both here in Maine and elsewhere," he says.
ORPC has grid-tied power projects in Eastport and on the Kvichak River in Alaska.
The new subsidiary in Quebec will develop both marine and river power for the province of Quebec. The company also established an office in Ireland last year.
