PORTLAND, Maine - Personal income in Maine rose seven-tenths of a percent in this year's 2nd quarter, federal figures show, but Maine still ranks 45th among states.
Earnings generated more than half of the increase, reflecting a rise in paychecks being seen around the nation.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis says earnings rose most quickly in farming, up almost 5 percent. Running a business was also more lucrative, with earnings rising nearly 3.5 percent. But wages in construction slumped, by more than 3 percent.
And the growth in personal income in Maine in the 2nd quarter lagged the national average of 1 percent.
