A Maine hospital seeking bankruptcy proceedings has listed debts of up to $10 million to nearly 900 different creditors.
In documents filed in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Tuesday, Penobscot Valley Hospital lists 878 creditors. The Bangor Daily News reports hospital attorney Andrew Helman said there were another 154 former patients that could be owed money.
Helman declined to reveal total hospital debts or assets. Two of the top creditors to the hospital _ The Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture _ are owed millions.
Helman says the hospital sought Chapter 11 protection on Tuesday and its first-day motions will be heard in court on Wednesday.
