Portland Jetport Says 2018 Was Its Busiest Year Ever

Maine Public file

The Portland International Jetport says 2018 was its busiest year ever.

Last year, more than 2.1 million passengers flew in or out of the jetport — about 15 percent more than 2017.

Assistant airport Manager Zachary Sundquist says a lot of that is due to the state's growing popularity.

“Portland has been a very hot market lately, as has Maine in general, and we're really starting to see our airline partners invest more in the market,” he says.

Airlines have been increasing the size of planes they send to the airport, and Sundquist says the jetport plans to continue down that road.

“We're always working with our airline partners, I think going forward we're going to continue to focus on larger airplanes to move more people, and we're always chasing additional destinations,” he says.

This year the jetport has added summer service to Chicago, as well as service to Denver, Raleigh and more cities in Florida.

The Portland International Jetport is one of six commercial airports in Maine, and by far the busiest.
