Cumberland, York county wage gains ran behind inflation this spring

Workers in Maine's two most populous counties had trouble keeping up with inflation in the second quarter of this year.

The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that average weekly wages grew by no more than 3% in Cumberland and York counties from a year earlier. During that same period, the consumer price index rose by up to nearly 5%.

The Cumberland and York County wage gains also trailed the national average of 4.7%.
