Tidings Of Joy Midcoast Community Band Holiday Concert

Tidings Of Joy Midcoast Community Band Holiday Concert

Midcoast Community Band Holiday Concert

The Midcoast Community Band will present Tidings of Joy, its first of two winter concerts,
on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7th at the Odd Fellows Hall, 7 Elementary School Road, in Tenants
Harbor. The concert will begin at 4:00 under the direction of Jo Anne Parker, who is wrapping
up her 38th year fronting the band.

The program will be mostly Christmas music with a blend of familiar and not so familiar tunes, including the popular audience sing-along of favorite carols. Parker’s voice student, Ashley
Corbett of Cushing, will sing Grown-Up Christmas List, accompanied by the band. Other
pieces on the program will include Greensleeves Rhapsody; My Dancing Day, a traditional English carol; Divinum Mysterium, a beautiful setting by James Swearingen of the Advent hymn Of the Father’s Love Begotten; and A Canadian Brass Christmas Suite.
On a lighter note, the program will include Santa Baby and Feliz Navidad (with lots of fun percussion).

Because of the date of the concert, Parker has chosen to have the band play a quiet number,
Benediction by John Stevens, to commemorate Dec. 7th, 1941 and the significant, horrific part it played in United States History.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations for the band and the Tenants Harbor Odd Fellows Lodge will be greatly appreciated. There will also be a collection box for non-perishable food items, for those who might want to share their bounty, to be donated to a local food pantry, as this is a time of great need by many families.

The band will be playing another holiday concert on Dec. 19th in Thomaston, details to be released shortly.

For further information, please contact Jo Anne Parker at knitmusic@roadrunner.com.
