Winter Harbor Music Festival Sunday Brunch Concert
Join the Winter Harbor Music Festival’s Executive and Artistic Directors and special guest artist, Cliff Guthrie, for the third performance of their inaugural Winter Sunday Brunch series. The performance will feature music by Beethoven, Obiols, Faure and Béla Kovács. A variety of brunch offerings plus coffee and tea will be available. Donations for refreshments gratefully accepted.
Deiran Manning has given performances across the United States, Ireland, England, France, and Italy at notable venues such as Merkin Concert Hall, Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, and the New York City Mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion. Recent solo recitals include performances at Hammond Hall, Eagle Hill, and the Surry Arts Barn in Maine, the Brattleboro Music Center in Vermont and at the Duus Safnahús in Keflavik, Iceland. A Maine native, Manning spent his formative years in New York City attending LaGuardia Performing Arts High School, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Currently on the faculty at Husson University he previously taught at New York University and Brooklyn Conservatory. Awards include; Stanza Governor’s Prize in Composition, the Ira Gershwin award and premiere honors in the LISSMA International Piano Competition, and the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition. Recently Deiran Manning was awarded a grant from the Maine Arts Council to record iconic keyboard works and his recordings of the Diabelli and Goldberg Variations are available digitally on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms.
Deirdre McArdle is the daughter of the noted American Modernist painter, Patrick McArdle. A former member of the Flute and Chamber Music faculty at Bowdoin College and Manhattan School of Music, she has given masterclasses and performances in Israel, Italy, France, and Ireland. Notable concerts include appearances at the South Bank Center in London, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and Alice Tully Hall in New York City. McArdle has premiered compositions dedicated to her by Tibor Serly, Elliott Schwartz, David Loeb, Robert Rohe, Daniel Paget and Phillip Thomas. In his review of her Carnegie Hall performance, the New York Times critic Tim Page, wrote that she “…produced an unusually full and lustrous sound from her flute, alternately languorous and darting,” in a program that was, “a brilliant challenge for a virtuosic flutist.”
Clarinetist Cliff Guthrie is a founding member of the Downeast Chamber Orchestra and performs with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine, the Grand pit orchestra and the Bangor Band. He is an accomplished Chamber Music player who has participated in the Bennington Chamber Music Conference, the Winter Harbor Music Festival Chamber Music Workshop, the Kneisel Hall Adult Institute and the Composers Conference at Wellesley. Cliff Guthrie will perform Hommage a M. de Falla, by Béla Kovács (1937-2021) former clarinetist with the Hungarian State Opera, with pianist Deiran Manning. Manuel De Falla, for whom the piece was written, is best known for his ballet The Three Cornered Hat.
