The winter Open Mic series continues tonight with Emcee Eric Lowe. Mic goes live at 6pm, doors for sign-ups open at 5:30pm. $5 cover charge for all, cash only. Mic time is limited to 2 songs or 10 minutes or less (for poetry, comedy, story-telling), but depending upon sign-ups there may be a chance to get up to the mic a second time during the evening. Cold drinks available at the bar, and our fantastic volunteer Friends group will have chili & cornbread & coffee & dessert available for sale – cash only, no credit cards accepted during Open Mic. The three-time Tony Award winning laugh riot Lend Me A Tenor follows the misadventures of Max and the Cleveland Grand Opera company. After preparing a lovely reception for Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, for a one-night only performance in Pagliacci Max finds his star on the verge of death, the theatre in potential ruins, and worst of all his fiance has a thing for tenors! As Max dons the makeup to stand in for Il Stupendo, hilarity and mischief ensue.

Experience the fun and magic of theater on Saturday mornings with Play Me a Story! Ages 4 – 10 enjoy a performance of children’s stories followed by an interactive acting workshop with Portland Stage’s Education Artists for $15. Sign up for the month and save or pick individual days that work for you. Financial aid is available. Build literacy, encourage creativity and spark dramatic dreams!

Play Me a Story takes place in person at Portland Stage’s Theater for Kids on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Doors open at 10:00, 10:30 performance, followed by an interactive workshop from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM, with everything wrapped up by 12:00 PM.

All books featured in Play Me a Story are presented with permission from the publishers and/or authors.

Seamlessly blending illusion, acrobatics, magic, and whimsy, MOMIX sends audiences flying down the rabbit hole in Moses Pendleton’s newest creation, ALICE, set to take the stage at Sanford Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7.

Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic "Alice in Wonderland," the show is a mind-bending adventure, as Alice encounters time-honored characters including the undulating Caterpillar, a lobster quadrille, frenzied White Rabbits, a mad Queen of Hearts, and a variety of other surprises. “I don’t intend to retell the whole Alice story” Pendleton says, “but to use it as a taking off point for invention.”

Filled with visual splendor and startling creative movement, Alice reveals that nothing in MOMIX’s world is as it seems!
