AUGUSTA, Maine - A Maine judge says a man charged with killing his father and dismembering the body is not competent to stand trial and will be sent to Riverview Psychiatric Center.
WCSH-TV reports that 25-year-old Leroy Smith of Gardiner tried to plead Monday that he can't get a fair trial before he was stopped by the judge. Smith's attorney said no lawyer can provide a defense for Smith because he is so delusional. Maine Forensic Services evaluated Smith twice and found him to have acute delusional thinking.
Smith was charged with the May death of 56-year-old Leroy Smith Jr. inside an apartment they shared. Police have said Smith killed his father by stabbing him in the neck and using knives to chop up his body before burying him in the woods.
