Maine Suspends Doc for Practicing While on Drugs

WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) _ A Maine licensure board is suspending a Waterville physician for 450 days for violations including practicing medicine after ingesting drugs.

The Morning Sentinelreports the state Board of Osteopathic Licensure imposed the sanction on Paul Gosselin. He also was found to have prescribed medicine for himself in circumstances that didn't require self-treatment.

Gosselin is an osteopath who was first licensed in 1999. His attorney says the licensure board's decision has been appealed to Kennebec County Superior Court.

State records say Gosselin has been before the board for disciplinary matters twice before. Gosselin's suspension can be reduced to 90 days followed by five years' probation if he undergoes substance abuse and mental health evaluations and makes a plan to respond to the assessment's results.
