BIDDEFORD, Maine - A Biddeford physician is on probation for failing to be aware of the hazards of medication he prescribed to a patient for pain.
The Maine Board of Licensure found that Dr. Stephen Doane also committed unprofessional conduct for failing to follow-up on information regarding a patient’s overdoses.
During probation, a monitor must review all cases where Doane prescribes controlled substances for more than one week.
Dr. Doane is also allowed to supervise only one mid-level practitioner, and may oversee no more than 200 beds in a maximum of 2 facilities for the remainder of his licensure.
Dr. Doane was previously reprimanded in 2012 for failing to adhere to board rules when prescribing narcotics for pain. He paid an $1,100 fine.
