Search Underway for Missing Maine Campers

UPDATE 4:43 p.m. ET: 

ELLIOTSVILLE, Maine - Two campers who disappeared Monday on their way to a parking lot after packing up their gear have been found safe and sound.

Officials with the Maine Warden Service say Michael Chapman, 40,and Kelli MacFarlin were found around noon today.  The two were reported missing at about 4 p.m. Monday.

Cpl. John MacDonald says the two became lost when they followed the wrong trail to get back to their vehicle. They had been camping at Little Wilson Falls in Elliotsville, and were about two miles away from their campsite when they were found.

Elliottsville is east of Monson in Piscataquis County.
 

UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: The Maine Warden Service says Michael Chapman and Kelli Macfarlin have been located alive. This information is late-breaking and more details will follow this afternoon.

ELLIOTSVILLE, Maine - A search is underway for two campers who disappeared Monday after packing up to leave the site they were sharing with six other campers at Little Wilson Falls in Elliotsville.

The Maine Warden Service says Michael Chapman, 40, and Kelli Macfarlin, 38, of Newport, had moved their supplies to a vehicle to leave the campsite, but never made it to the parking lot.

The two were last seen Monday at about noon. Game wardens were notified about the missing pair at about 3:40 p.m.

A search was launched Monday with ground crews and aircraft until dark, and resumed this morning.

Macfarlin was last seen wearing a pink jacket and Chapman might be wearing a yellow sweatshirt, officials say.  They're asking anyone with information about the pair to contact the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office.
