Unemployed Mainers can expect new opportunities thanks to a $3.6 million grant from the federal government.
The Maine Department of Labor is planning to use the money to create programs aimed at helping the unemployed find work and training.
Director of Communications Julie Rabinowitz says the department wants the impact of the programs to be life-long.
"We want to get people who are underemployed the skills to have a wage and also a career pathway," Rabinowitz says.
Programs will focus on technical careers in information technology, health care, and advanced manufacturing.
