PORTLAND, Maine - A section of I-395 in Bangor that was shut down this weekend so crews could replace a bridge is open again, about 18 hours ahead of schedule.
Maine DOT spokesman Ted Talbot says the section between Exits 1 and 2 was cordoned off late Friday evening and reopened at 1 o'clock this afternoon. It was originally expected to reopen at 7 tomorrow morning.
"The contractor worked right through the weekend, right through the overnights," Talbot says. "They did some paving this morning around 3:30. the last piece was some guardrails, some striping to do, so all was completed in time for 1 o'clock today."
Talbot says the contractor was offered a financial incentive to finish early: $7,500 per hour with a $100,000 maximum, a target the company was able to meet.
