Police Allege that Suspect Stashed Drugs in Police Cruiser

LYMAN, Maine (AP) _ Maine state police say a Massachusetts man likely hid a bag of cocaine in his underwear and then stashed it under the backseat of a cruiser after being stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

The Portland Press Herald reports that police stopped Franklin Salcedo of Lawrence, Massachusetts, Thursday night in Lyman because his license plate light was out. Police charged him with operating without a license.

He consented to a search of his car, but no drugs were found.

Authorities say when the trooper returned to his cruiser after booking Salcedo, he found a bag containing 13 grams of cocaine under the back seat.

Salcedo is being held on $2,000 bail on the drug charge. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
