Man Agrees to Remove Tiny Homes After Dispute With City

PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine man says he'll remove two tiny homes on trailers from the parking lot he owns after city officials said they were illegal.

The city of Portland said Brent Adler did not have proper permits for the small homes, both about 400 square feet. Adler had argued the homes were actually recreational vehicles.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Adler has agreed to pay a $1,000 fine and remove the homes but did not admit to any violations. He said he will try to sell them or move them outside the city. He has also applied for a permit to place a small home on a traditional foundation instead of a trailer.

The city is considering a new ordinance specifically outlawing the use of RVs as a permanent residence.
