The city of South Portland is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Bug Light, otherwise known as the Portland Breakwater Light, on Saturday.
South Portland owns the 24-foot lighthouse, and the South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club has maintained it for the last three decades.
The anniversary will celebrate the lighthouse, which is modeled after a Greek monument, and its history. Bug Light has weathered some fierce storms over the last several decades, including two last January.
"And guess what? Not a drop of water was inside that beautiful, little lighthouse," said Sue Sturtevant, a rotary club member and one of the event's organizers. "Its cast iron exterior saved it. Now we are worried about the rising tides and more frequent storms.
Saturday's event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature reenactments from costumed lighthouse keepers, history lessons and poetry about coastal resilience.
Parking is free at Bug Light Park and at Southern Maine Community College, but organizers are encouraging people to carpool or walk or bike using the newly reopened Greenbelt Walkway to the event.
