The Mills Administration is loosening its limit on outdoor gatherings from 50 to 100 people.

The Mills Administration is loosening its limit on outdoor gatherings from 50 to 100 people. The new limit takes effect this Saturday, August 1.

Angela Buker, owner of Fairytale Gardens and Weddings in Madison, welcomes the news.

"I think it's long overdue, based on our numbers and statistics in the state of Maine."

To ensure physical distancing, the state will require a capacity of no more than five people per one-thousand square feet. That's the same capacity requirement for retailers.

During a briefing this week, Maine Center for Disease Control Director Dr. Nirav Shah said that the state was considering lifting its restriction on outdoor gatherings because of a growing body of evidence that outdoor activities present a lower risk for spreading COVID-19.
