Sara Just: An Inside Look at PBS NewsHour

Sara Just was named Executive Producer of "PBS NewsHour" after more than 25 years at ABC News, where she had most recently served as ABC’s Washington Deputy Bureau Chief and Senior Washington Producer for "Good Morning America." She previously spent 17 years at Ted Koppel’s "Nightline."

Sara Just leads the PBS NewsHour editorial and production team. Just, a former fellow of Columbia Journalism School’s Punch Sulzberger Program, is the recipient of 13 Emmy Awards, two DuPont Silver Batons, three Peabody Awards, a Gracie Award, a James Beard Broadcast and Journalism Award, an RFK Journalism Award, and Columbia College’s John Jay Award, and she is a three-time Webby Official Honoree.

America Addicted: “We did a series last year for 2 weeks and occasionally since then on the opioid crisis. All of those stories are here, but one I was especially moved by was this one about a group of recovering addicts who are helping to persuade people to get into treatment, sometimes just hours after an overdose, in Rhode Island. This series was nominated for an Emmy Award — and we will find out in a few weeks whether it wins.”

Yemen’s Babies: “Expanding our foreign coverage has been a big priority of mine. Our correspondent Marcia Biggs filed this story for us from Yemen last year and reported this heartbreaking story about the children who are the littlest victims of that civil and proxy war. Marcia, along with correspondent Jane Ferguson, are among the bravest and most compassionate reporters I know and both of have done stunning work for us in Yemen, one of the most difficult places to report in the world.”
