Designer Revives Biddeford's Textile History

BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) _ Maine's once mighty textile manufacturing industry is getting somewhat of a revival thanks to a women's clothing designer that has relocated to Biddeford from New York City.

Roxi Suger is the owner of Angelrox clothing line, which is sold in boutiques across the country. She recently moved the business into a 5,000-square foot space in the Pepperell Center.

She tells the Portland Press Herald she's keenly aware of the textile history around her.

Suger said her move to Biddeford also allowed her to hire employees already trained for manufacturing jobs. The company has about 10 employees and plans on hiring more.

Her move is welcomed by town officials who see it as a sign that the redevelopment of the downtown and mill districts is well underway.
