The insurer Allstate announced Monday that $1.3 million will go to Maine policyholders as part of a “Shelter in Place Payback.”
The company says an unprecedented decline in driving due to shelter in place orders has translated into fewer accidents. The company plans to payback a total of $600 million nationwide, and says most customers can expect an amount equal to about 15 percent of premiums for April and May.
In a written statement, Maine Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa praised Allstate for returning savings to consumers, many of whom are currently facing financial hardship.
