The state reports first time claims for state unemployment benefits jumped about 12% last week to a total of 415.
The Maine Department of Labor also reports 4,176 continuing claims for unemployment last week. Both are still relatively low numbers. But, historically the trend is for unemployment claims to climb from now through the fall as summer tourist businesses wind down for the year.
