On Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. the Rockport Public Library will kick off their winter/spring series entitled “Let’s Feel Better in 2026.” The first presentation will be given by Cristina Lindsay, OTR/L, who, alongside her therapy dog Mango, will discuss “The Joy Prescription for Aging Well Through Connection and Meaning."
The program will take a fresh look at how enrichment-based therapies can help people stay independent, connected, and full of purpose. Instead of focusing only on physical recovery, Lindsay will explain how OT therapists can use meaningful activities — from hobbies and community engagement to creative and social experiences — to support emotional well-being and everyday independence. Lindsay will also share how using the comfort and joy of animal-assisted therapy can foster connection in ways traditional approaches often can’t.
Cristina Lindsay worked for years as an occupational therapist in both hospital and home health settings. During this time, she witnessed the challenges the aging population faced, particularly those with dementia or mobility limitations. Driven by a passion for improving quality of life, she launched her business, Thrive OT, to provide social and emotional support, helping individuals maintain their highest level of independence while connecting and engaging in meaningful ways.

All of their projects aim to inspire art-making with a variety of materials to explore. ArtVan programs engage all age groups, encourage time outside and reduce screen time, help youth stay connected, diminish stress, and provide release for unvented expressions of emotions, such as loss and confusion.
ArtVan began in 2004 and has provided therapeutic art and strengths-based programs to under-resourced neighborhoods.
The Lewiston Public Library is located downtown at 200 Lisbon Street at the corner of Pine Street. More information on ArtVan programs is available by contacting the Lewiston Public Library at 513-3133 or LPLKids@lewistonmaine.gov.
Hosted by the Maine Public Health Association and MDF's Maine Downtown Center.
Maine's downtowns are places that build human connections through good design and bringing people together. Local revitalization efforts work hard to design spaces that create shade, are safe, walkable and bikeable, provide trail connectivity, create seating for conversation or reflection and preserve buildings. These local downtown programs intentionally bring people together for yoga in a park, a walk along the waterfront, festivals, farmers’ markets, creating events in parks and alley way and shopping at local businesses. Maine has amazing downtown leaders around the State who are revitalizing their communities and neighborhoods with the goal of building human connections, preserving places, and driving economic development. This panel presentation and networking event will highlight the work being done in different Maine downtowns and the ways they are improving human connections and public health.
