BANGOR, Maine — An Eddington man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and other charges.
Nicholas McDonald was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to six years and three months behind bars and three years of probation.
Prosecutors say the 33-year-old McDonald was caught in Holden in April 2013 with drugs and a loaded gun.
He was arrested after he ran from a vehicle that had been pulled over.
Police found a safe containing a loaded 9 mm handgun and drug paraphernalia in the car.
McDonald was taken after his arrest to a hospital where an officer found heroin hidden inside his body.
McDonald was prohibited from having a firearm because of a 2006 conviction.
