Oxford Woman gets 18 Months for Fatal Crash

PARIS, Maine - A Maine woman convicted of manslaughter for being behind the wheel during a crash that killed two of her passengers has been ordered to serve 18 months in prison.

The sentence was imposed on Kristina Lowe on Wednesday in connection with the January 2012 crash in West Paris that took the lives of 19-year-old Logan Dam and 16-year-old Rebecca Mason.

Prosecutors say Lowe - 19 at the time - had been drinking and was reading a text message when she crashed. She was acquitted of drunken driving charges and her lawyers denied she was on the phone.

Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence the 21-year-old Lowe to five years. Her lawyers asked for community service by talking to teens about the dangers of distracted driving.
