Portland Explores Conservancy Partnership With Foundation Behind Maine Monument

PORTLAND, Maine - The organization that managed the creation of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine is working with the city of Portland to support a parks conservancy.

Lucas St. Clair, of Elliotsville Plantation, announced a private-public partnership with Portland on Wednesday. St. Clair says his family foundation will raise corporate contributions for the parks conservancy in addition to providing funds for a director, staffers and office space.

According to a statement by St. Clair, the conservancy will actively try to encourage Portland residents to take advantage of parks, trails and open spaces in the city.

A steering committee will meet again on Sep. 20 to discuss the project before it's brought before City Council for approval.
