Maine Fire Departments Get $879,925 From FEMA

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Four Maine fire departments will receive $879,925 in federal funds to pay for vehicles, operations and safety work.

The departments are in Bradley, Madison, Scarborough and Caribou. The awards become effective on July 4 and are part of a larger national award totaling more than $38 million.

Bradley will receive $142,500 and Caribou will get $332,500, both for vehicles. Madison will get $179,835 and Scarborough will receive $225,090 for operations and safety.

The funding is from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which the Federal Emergency Management Agency administers. U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King say in a statement that the money will provide firefighters ``with the resources they need to do their important job.''
