Eves, Congressional Delegation Talk Aging Issues

AUGUSTA, Maine - House Speaker Mark Eves says he hopes to build a strong partnership with Maine's congressional delegation to address challenges presented by the state's rapidly aging population.

The Democratic lawmaker is in Washington on Tuesday to meet with Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree.

On Monday, he met with officials from the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. He said federal officials are interested in helping Maine become a leader on these issues so it can create a model that other states can follow.

Among Eves' ideas is a $65 million bond to build more senior housing.

Eves, who is up for re-election in November, said he's talking to Maine's congressional delegation about grant opportunities and reallocating resources to find more money for such projects.
