Halfway Rock Light Station Auction Nearly Final

HARPSWELL, Maine (AP) _ A historic lighthouse in Casco Bay will likely have a new owner after the federal government closes out an auction for the structure.

The Halfway Rock Light Station, built in 1871, is located on a two-acre ledge of rock off of Bailey Island, near South Harpswell.

The lighthouse has been on the National Register of Historic Places for 26 years.

The federal General Services Administration, which conducted the auction, typically reviews a winning bid before a property is awarded and identifies the bidder when the deal goes through. Bidding had been topping out at around $275,000.
