CASCO, Maine - A fire has destroyed the rangers' headquarters at Sebago Lake State Park.
WCSH-TV reports that the fire swept through the building Wednesday morning and there was little that could be done to save the structure. Investigators say the fire likely started near a maintenance area in the back corner of the building.
The building handled the operations for all the southern Maine parks. Rangers say that it's a significant loss for Maine State Parks.
Rangers are encouraging people to continue using the trails around the lake at the park. They are planning to set up shop temporarily in a trailer so they can continue processing bookings and other work.
