TOPSHAM, Maine - Renowned pianist Frank Glazer has died, just weeks before his 100th birthday.
Glazer was an internationally known performer who still held a position as artist in residence at Bates College in Lewiston.
Glazer was born in Wisconsin, but had lived in Maine for several decades. In addition to being known for his virtuoso piano playing, he was also credited with developing a piano technique he said enabled him to continue playing successfully into his 90's.
As recently as November, Glazer told MPBN reporter Tom Porter, "I'm as active as I was in junior high school." Glazer made his concert debut at The Town Hall in New York City 80 years ago.
Glazer would have turned 100 Feb. 19. Bates officials say he died early this morning. Spokesman Kent Fischer says the family has not yet announced funeral plans.
