Maine Woman Charged With False Claims to Marathon Fund

PORTLAND, Maine - The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office says a Maine woman collected a fraudulent $8,000 payment from the fund for Boston Marathon bombing victims and attempted to collect another $12,500.

The office says 49-year-old Amey Molloy of Portland was arrested in Maine on Wednesday morning on a fugitive warrant and charged with larceny over $250 and attempted larceny. Attorney General Martha Coakley says Molloy defraud The One Fund Boston by "falsely claiming she had been injured at the Boston Marathon bombing.''

The One Fund issued Molloy $8,000 after she claimed she had undergone foot surgery due to an injury sustained during the 2013 bombing. Coakley says an investigation revealed Molloy was not treated for any bombing-related injuries.

Molloy is being held at Cumberland County Jail. It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
