AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage made good on his promise to veto line items in the two year, $6.7 billion state budget passed by lawmakers earlier this week.
The list is far short of the “hundreds of line items” the governor talked about in an impromptu news conference yesterday — there are 64, totaling about $60 million.
“The governor marked the items by hand in the budget,” press secretary Adrienne Bennett says. The budget with those notations was delivered just before 8 a.m.
Lawmakers will have to act on each one of the items separately starting as early as this evening.
