Portland Museum Starts 2016 with Two Major Acquisitions

PORTLAND, Maine_ The Portland Museum of Art has acquired two major new works: River Cove by Andrew Wyeth and Winslow Homer's An Open Window.

According to the museum, An Open Window, painted in 1872,  fills a gap in its Homer collections, bridging early works from the 1860's and later compositions from the 1890's. It was partially donated by an anonymous family and partially purchased with funds.

The second painting, River Cove by Andrew Wyeth, was a donation from philanthropist David Rockefeller in honor of his late son, Richard.

The paintings can be seen January 22nd, when the Portland Museum of Art reopens following a refurbishment.
