Maine Reviewing More Than 30 Bridges After Bath Crash

BATH, Maine - State officials are reviewing dozens of bridges around Maine after a Bath traffic accident in which a mother and child crashed through a guardrail and fell 40 feet to the street.

Melissa and Matthew Medina of Windham were injured in the crash. The Portland Press Herald reported that the bridge guardrail had several missing or broken rail bolts and did not prevent Medina's SUV from crashing through.

Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot says the state will review more than 30 bridges around the state. He says conversations about reviewing bridges had been held before the Bath crash.

Talbot says it's difficult to say exactly how many bridges will be reviewed but it will be "less than 90.'' He says the state's bridges are safe to drive on.
