BANGOR, Maine - After a little more than a year on the job, James Conneely, president of the University of Maine Augusta, is resigning.
"Chancellor Page - he has accepted that resignation," says University of Maine System spokesman Dan Demeritt.
Demeritt says he cannot comment further on the reasons behind Conneely's resignation, other than to say that Conneely stepped down for "professional" reasons.
Demeritt says U-Maine System Chancellor James Page is planning to talk with faculty on the Augusta campus Thursday "about transitional leadership for the university- we're fortunate that the University of Maine at Augusta has a very strong leadership team."
In a statement, Conneely does not detail his reasons for leaving, but wishes UMA "success."
Leadership at UMA has been in a state of flux for several years since the resignation of Allyson Handley in 2014. Glenn Cummings was appointed interim president, and subsequently departed to head the University of Southern Maine. That was followed by interim leadership and, finally, Conneely's appointment in 2016.
Conneely's last day is June 30.
