BANGOR, Maine - University of Maine System Chancellor James Page is stepping down at the end of the academic year.Page says it's a "good time'' to move on after stabilizing enrollment and finances for Maine's seven public universities with 30,000 students. Trustees will vote Wednesday on a proposal to further expand the "one university'' vision that created efficiencies and contained costs.
Page took office in March 2012, becoming the first Maine native and university system alumnus to serve as chancellor.
The University of Maine System will launch a national search for his successor and expects to have a new chancellor in place by the summer.
