Maine Schools Extend Planned Closings

Many school districts have pushed back the date on which they hope students can return to their classrooms. 

When Gov. Janet Mills declared a civil emergency on March 15, she asked school districts to close for the duration.  The end of the emergency period coincides with the start of the traditional April vacation, so school districts are pointing to Monday, April 27th as the date they hope to resume in-school education.  Of course, that date could be pushed back further, especially if the governor extends the civil emegency.

Below are the current dates major school districts plan to resume in-school education.  All are subject to change:

Portland:  April 27

Lewiston:  April 27

Bangor:  April 27

Auburn:  April 27

MSAD 6 (Buxton, Hollis, Limington, Standish, Frye Island):  March 27

RSU 17 (Oxford Hills):  April 27

Sanford:  March 27

RSU 14 (Windham, Raymond):  April 27

RSU 60  (Berwick, North Berwick, Lebanon):  April 27

RSU 57  (Alfred, Limerick, Lyman, Newfield, Shapleigh, Waterboro): 

South Portland:  April 27

Scarborough:  April 27

RSU 18 (China and Messalonskee):  April 27

Saco:  April 27

Gorham:  April 27
