AG Investigating Secret Recording of Call

AUGUSTA, Maine - The Maine attorney general's office is investigating whether laws were broken when a conservative blogger listened in and recorded a conference call by several liberal groups.

Mike Tipping of the Maine People's Alliance tells the Portland Press Herald that investigators are talking to participants in the Sept. 4 call. The liberal advocacy group contends blogger Steve Robinson violated Maine law when he secretly recorded the call because he was not invited and his presence was unknown.

Tim Feeley, spokesman for the attorney general's office, told the newspaper in an email that the Maine People's Alliance complaint would be "evaluated in due course.''

The conference call focused on efforts to craft a response to a political ad attacking Democratic gubernatorial candidate U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud on immigration issues.
