AUGUSTA, Maine - A public records request by The Associated Press shows the Maine House has received two complaints of sexual misconduct or harassment against lawmakers in the last decade.
Across the nation, several prominent politicians have been brought down by sexual harassment claims in recent months.
The Legislature's executive director's office said correspondence regarding the complaints is exempt under state law. The Maine Senate has not received any such complaints since 2008.
Assistant Senate Democratic Leader Nate Libby said he expects lawmakers in January will consider his proposals to increase harassment training requirements for lawmakers.
The AP's request showed six of 186 lawmakers did not attend the most recent in-person harassment training. But the six lawmakers satisfied training requirements by reviewing and signing the harassment policy.
