State Workers Overwhelmingly Approve New Contract

MSEA via Facebook

The Maine State Employees Association, which represents more than 10,000 workers in the executive branch, says members have overwhelmingly approved a two-year contract with the state.

MSEA President Ramona Welton says the contract has many provisions. “One of the big ones in the package is 14 days paid family leave for birth or adoption of a child. That’s brand new for us.”

Under the contract, workers will get a 3% raise Sept. 1, and at least a 4% increase in December of 2020. The size of the second raise depends on where a worker's position falls on the pay scale.

Funding for the contract was approved by lawmakers in June.
