Maine's Marijuana Policy Office Begins Discussions For Tracking System

The state Office of Marijuana Policy met Monday with medical marijuana sellers and prospective adult recreational retailers to discuss a tracking system for marijuana grown or imported for sale into Maine."This is our kick off," says OMP Director Erik Gundersen, "basically making sure that when they do come into the program, that we give them the resources they need, the training they need in order to be successful on their end.”

Both recreational and medical marijuana sellers will be required to use the new tracking tool.

At the first educational session held in Augusta, some medical marijuana providers grumbled about the system, but Gundersen says it is needed to keep proper control of the substance regardless of its use.

"There has never been any type of tool like this used," he says. "So, I can understand if they're used to operating in one way and we come in and say, 'Hey, we need you to be on the track and trace.' But I think in the end, it’s going to be good for both the medical program and the adult use program.”
