Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine’s 1st District has joined with six other committee chairs requesting documents that federal agencies may have related to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.
Pingree says the requests went to the White House, federal law enforcement agencies and other federal agencies, and seek documents and communications around the time period the Capitol was attacked by rioters.
“It is important to have a thorough investigation of what happened on Jan. 6, so we will be getting information, documents that happened before, during or after the attack,” she says.
Pingree says she and her colleagues want to know what various agencies knew about the potential for demonstrations, violence or attacks around the first week in January. She says the request is not intended to interfere with the ongoing criminal investigations.
